I have to agree with you guys. The real problem is that the only guy
who REALLY improved his game from last year was Michael Jenkins- a
walk-on. He must have led the team in rebounds per minute. Not bad for
a guy who was the smallest man on the court most of the time. He showed
plenty of heart and a good ability to run the offense.

Our guards can't shoot from the outside. It is pretty hard to win with
the Princeton offense if you can't hit a jumper when you are open.
Mohammed played like he was sleep-walking for the majority of the
season, waking up only for the last few games. He can rebound and
create but we saw none of that early in the year. TJ looks like a water
bug running around without any direction. He can't hit free throws or
outside shots, so defenders can sag off of him looking for him to drive.
Doyle is a gutty and smart player who thinks he can create off his
dribble like he used to do in high school. He also is a horrible shot
from the outside. Vedran has a good outside shot and is a smart player
but he can't take over a game. He was the Cats only go to guy but his
game is much better as a complementary player than as a star. Vince
Scott improved as the season went on but he still needs to add some
pounds to play with the boys in the Big Ten. Davor did all he could
with what he had. The problem is he is not a difference-maker. Michael
Thompson can be a force in the middle if he grows up. The problem is
that the offense had to change with him in the game and I think it
really hurt the team. It is hard enough running the Princeton offense
without having to run completely different sets when one player is in
the game. The team loses its rhythm. Evan Seacat actually regressed
this year. He lost his outside shot and his defense is a huge
liability.

The bench once again was non-existent. The major knock I have with
Carmody is that he doesn't play his bench enough. It is hard to develop
without game experience. Some of the starters wore down as the season
progressed.

So there you have it. Our "stars" are really just complementary
players. Our bench is still undeveloped. Our rebounding skills are
abominable. We have only one real outside shooter. We played down to
the level of the poorer teams but we failed to play up to the level of
the better teams, especially on the road. We should have been an NIT
team this year with a chance to be an NCAA team next year. I think the
team needs to spend the summer together working on their individual
weaknesses while growing closer as a team. The football team did this
under Barnett the summer before they turned the program around. It is
time for the players of this basketball team to take it upon themselves
to become what they want to be. Maybe that is the problem. They
already are what they want to be.
