[NU Sports] Two extremes: Backes and Rees not to play this fall

Jeff Backes and center Trevor Rees won't be playing this fall.  I'd say  
this is a case of two extremes because Backes, who ostensibly won't  
play due to a lingering shoulder injury, will be beginning medical  
school at Northwestern this fall, and Rees won't be playing because  
he's being suspended for academic reasons.  One is starting medical  
school, the other can't keep up with college.

I hadn't realized that Backes was going to be a "fifth year senior"  
this year, but given the fact that he has no plans to play in the NFL  
and that he's starting medical school this year, it makes sense to me  
that he won't be playing this season regardless of any injury.  I'll  
miss watching him on kick and punt returns, and I'll never forget the  
OSU interception in the end zone last year.

I just hope we have a decent replacement for Rees at center.  Any  
scouting reports on that position?
