I think Thompson's absence was key, but it also shed additional light
on other problems.

Carmody told Dave Eanet on WGN before the game that Thompson missed
class more than he should. He really let his teammates down.

Aaron Johnson was the only PSU player who could cause matchup problems
for us, and Thompson is the only physical player we have who could have
slowed Robinson's rebounding down. But most of the Cats showed little
heart and hustle in even attempting to get rebounds. Without Thompson,
we should still be better than Penn State. But we weren't today.

It was a terrible day for the Cats, and for their outlook.

How key was not having Thompson this afternoon? Just a few more
rebounds and we would have had that game, I think.

Does anyone have any inside information about what's up? This is the
second time he's had an issue for breaking team rules. At least the
last time he was out for only about 10 minutes of the game (I'm not
sure it was a suspension, actually, but he didn't start). I think the
last time he just missed the team bus to the airport, or something like
that.

The other players don't seem to have this problem. Is he a little
cocky coming to play at NU from Duke? It doesn't look that way on the
court, but these violations of team rules are a problem.
