football game at Ford Field. I went to the Motor City Bowl last year.
Other than the traffic jam to get into the place, Ford Field was a great
place to see a bowl game (much better than the Alamo Dome IMHO). Far
from feeling threatened, I was looking forward to the possibility of
going there again.
As far as your comment on Detroit, it certainly has it's problems, but
they are working very hard to put that image behind them. The Ford
Field/Comerica Park/Fox Theater area is geared to tourism and rivals the
best that any big city has to offer. When you throw in world class
destinations like the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village, the Detroit
Institute of Art, and Zingerman's Deli (Ann Arbor) - you can have a lot
of fun in a couple of days.
That's why civic boosters put money into things like the Motor City
Bowl. They want people to come and see for themselves, rather than just
gossip based on what they read in the newspapers.
