IMHO, they ran out of interesting locations 10-15 bowls ago.
Shreveport?? Boise??
Unless you want to include all the domed stadiums that don't already
have bowls as sites, and I don't know that any of them are in
interesting locations (eg, Indianapolis or Syracuse), you have to take
the outside weather into account. That's what doomed the Gotham Bowl.
How many more places are there in California, Arizona or Florida to host
bowls or do you want to double up on the Rose Bowl?
One of the local papers was running a poll last week in which they
claimed that roughly half of this year's bowl-eligible teams would
have been ineligible based on the graduation requirements that are
currently scheduled to go into effect in 2007. If that's really the
case, then this year's near-miss on running out of bowl-eligible
teams could become a reailty.
(BTW, if you haven't checked out yesterday's Tank McNamara, it's a zinger
aimed at the Huskers.)
