If I recall correctly, Nebraska's class last year was ranked very
highly (as in top 3 or 4) in the nation. I don't put a whole lot of
stock into recruiting "experts", but it's almost never a *bad* thing to
be ranked that highly. And that was with Callahan's staff being on the
job less than a year.
And keep in mind that it's not exactly easy to convince a kid from
Florida, Texas, or California to come to Lincoln. Trust me, the surfing
ain't so good in Nebraska.
The Solich-for-Callahan thing is one of those rare situations where
it's a question of whether or not the ends will turn out to justify the
means.
Firing a 9-3 coach is problematic to say the least. But if it turns out
the Callahan does bring in the talent required to compete at the very
highest level (and provides the quality if coaching required) then it
can probably be considered the "right" decision. Only time will tell.
