The Gator Bowl is another old one - it began in 1946. During the
1950's and early '60's, it was always televised by CBS. The Sun Bowl
was not shown on national television until 1963. Two other bowls hit
the stage in 1959 - the Bluebonnet Bowl in Houston and the Liberty Bowl
in Philadelphia. The Bluebonnet has ceased to exist, while the Liberty
lasted in Philly for five years, Atlantic City for one year, then it
moved permanently to Memphis. But yes, the Rose, Sugar Orange and
Cotton were the big four for many, many years.
