  Amazingly enough (considering he got a writing -- not a broadcast -- job with ESPN.com right after he graduated), Darren was a theater major in the School of Speech.  He then persuaded ESPN not only to create a new job (sports business beat) but hire him to fill it.
   
  This from a guy who recruited me (and others) to WNUR Sports while wearing a purple suit in front of a bunch of freshmen at the Medill dean's convocation.
