I am happy to report that NU beat Seton Hall today at Continental Arena in
The Meadowlands by a 44-42 score, as Mohamed Hachad connected on a backdoor
layup with 3.3 seconds left in a game that I, and many Alumni from NY, NJ and
PA attended. The 'Cats went down by a 13-2 score early in the contest, and I
must admit, it looked like it was going to be a very long afternoon for my
16-year-old son and me, but we rallied with some tough defense. The game
itself was ragged, and probably set back the game of basketball to the era of
James Naismith. The 'Cats cannot rebound at all, and Seton Hall was just awful
with the ball. I lost track of how many turnovers they had--some were caused
by the men in purple, many were unforced errors.

We had a good NU contingent on hand, and there were a lot of happy faces
walking out when we pulled out the win. I sat next to Charlie McKenna,
ex-sportwriter for NEWSDAY and other papers, including THE DAILY NORTHWESTERN, and we
commiserated over how weak our team looks to be. When Vedran went out with
fouI trouble with about 10 minutes to go, it looked like curtains, but we
hung around and did just enough to prevail.

don't know how many other road wins we will have as we move into conference
play, so let's savor this one.
