Greetings to the NWU Sports List!

I've lurked here, reading the list's archive, for the last ten years, but I
don't think I've ever actually sent a message.

I did want to respond to a message from a few days ago. The writer had read
a section on the bowl page on my Webpage (HailToPurple.com), and assumed that
NU's allocated Sun Bowl seats are on the ten-yard line. I had written a
paragraph stressing the importance of buying tickets through NU directly:

"Even if you can get better seats through TicketMaster or scalping, buying
them through such third-party vendors does not help Northwestern or our future
bowl hopes. Which is better: sitting on the 35-yard line with tickets that
Northwestern cannot claim in its fan count (or, worse, our opponent school
possibly can claim) and cheering among a group of neutral spectators, or sitting on
the 10-yard line, supporting the Wildcats, building credibility for future
postseasons, and cheering among fellow rabid 'Cat fans?"

My apologies: I was not implying that NU's tickets actually are on the
ten-yard line, only that field position should not matter in one's buying decision
as much as the effect of the purchase on NU and its perceived ability to
"travel."

In fact, so far the tickets NU has sold directly have been very good, and it
seems that the Sun Bowl actually gave the two schools prime sections, rather
than reserving all of the good spots for Vitalis big wigs (no pun intended).
So the point of the paragraph is even more effective: why buy elsewhere, when
buying from NU gets you good seats, AND you're supporting the school?

Here's hoping for a win over the Bruins!
