The boys from South Bend always say the money goes to academics. It
doesn't seem to matter how much it is or whether it's bowl money or
NBC's money that they're talking about, it goes to academics. It makes
me wonder how the hell they're running the athletic department, because
believe me, it isn't off of basketball money and Big East non-football
distributions. That said, I still go back and back on this one. I
can't forget the day, and Paul will remember this, when Jack Tatum broke
Maury Dauigneau (my spelling is off but he was the NU quarterback in the
early 70s) for having the temerity of beating the Bucks the year
before. He didn't accidentally break by falling on it, no, he
deliberately broke it in front of God, Woody and a national television
audience. So, there is a big part of me that wants to root for ND but
it really is tough to root for those hypocrites - i just have too many
partners who went there.
