I couldn't have said it better myself!:)

I hate the Badgers, Hawkeyes and Buckeyes with a
vengeance during those nine weeks of Big Ten play. I'm
rather ambivolent about the Gophers and cheer for
Michigan and PSU much of the time because I grew up a
Wolverines fan and my brother is a PSU alum.

But in nonconference play and especially in bowls, I
have no trouble donning the Big Ten banner and
cheering for all our teams. It makes the league look
better, our record look better, helps earn us more
money and strengthens our chances for future success
in terms of securing bowl tie-ins, TV contracts,
people taking us seriously when we beat other Big Ten
schools, etc.

And that it's against the Evil Empire just sweetens
the deal. If they went by the numbers and not the
name, I think it's pretty clear Oregon or Auburn would
be in Tempe ahead of the Irish. Watching OSU roll over
the Irish on Jan. 2 may almost make up for not having
a real Rose Bowl this year.
