[NU Sports] Sun Bowl Almost Locked In

With both LSU (formerly BCS #4) and Virginia Tech (formerly BCS #5)
losing tonight (Georgia and Florida State pick up the automatic BCS
bids for their conferences), Ohio State (formerly BCS #6) will most
likely move up into the #4 spot when the standings are released
tomorrow. What this means is that they will be guaranteed a spot in a
BCS bowl game since they are ranked in the top 4 but do not have an
automatic bid (read the rather complicated set of automatic
qualifications here:
http://www.bcsfootball.org/index2.cfm?page=standards). Most sites
(CBS SportsLine and CFN) have updated their predictions to reflect
this fact.
What this means for NU: an almost definite Sun Bowl berth (of course
nobody will know 100% until after the announcement is made - you never
know who the bowls will really pick, especially when the Wildcats are
involved). What this also means is that UCLA will almost definitely
be in the Sun Bowl as well (with Oregon going to the Holiday Bowl).
Today they got pummeled by USC as their defense looked very porous
(although USC makes everyone look that way) yet their offense could do
nothing either. No doubt they have good offensive weapons and have
put up big numbers this season, but they are definitely vulnerable.

PS: prices for flights to El Paso have been going up steadily all week
