[NU Sports] Sound familiar? Barnett on the bubble?

It was frustrating to see GB wander. The interesting thing is that, with
all of the trouble he has been through at CU, he has not been publicly
interviewing elsewhere. Now some might say he's damaged goods, but any
prospective employer would see that none of the charges have been proved and
he has continued to recruit and win football games. So if he is habitually
unfaithful, why hasn't he continued to wander as many other coaches would
have?

Two answers come to mind.

1. He isn't congenitally unfaithful, but knew he had no future at NU with
Taylor as AD.
2. Colorado is where he wanted to be and he would have gone there regardless
of how things were going at NU.

Interesting reading about the Barnett saga.
Personally, I wish no ill will to Barnett and will forever be thankful for
him for taking the Purple to Pasadena and giving a NUMB junior who LOVES
football an unforgettable experience.

But there is a part of me that wants to just look at Barnett and say "see
... that's what you get!" (Kind of what I want to do to Nebraska fans who
moan about a 1-year bowl drought when they fired a coach who was
9-3 ... and who might be in a 1+ year bowl drought had the Big XII not been
so weak this year)

Yeah that's cruel -- but Barnett had a good thing going in Evanston and saw
greener pastures at a bigger school and jumped. I really don't want to keep
a coach here who doesn't WANT to be here (we saw what Barnett's last couple
years with wandering eyes did), but I do hope that other coaches pay
attention to the story of Gary Barnett and realize that stepping stones
shouldn't be taken so lightly and to appreciate what they have. (anyone
remember Lon Kruger? He was college-hopping in the NCAA and had great
success at K-State, Florida and Illinois ... then saw green pastures in the
NBA with the Hawks. End of story.)

So I read these articles with interest -- no ill-will to Gary Barnett (who
may be becoming the Wayne Fontes of college football), but not much sympathy
either. He made his bed and jumped from Evanston to Boulder. I wonder if he
has second thoughts?

All I really care about now is that we have a coach who wants to be in
Evanston, has laid a foundation for a winning program and is taking our team
to a bowl game for the sixth time in school history -- hopefully for the
second BOWL WIN in school history.

GO CATS!!!

PS - It'll be interesting to watch UCLA-USC this weekend if indeed the
Bruins are to be our bowl foe in El Paso. I know Alan is doing his best to
downplay the Bruins, but they sure gave the Trojans a tough game last year
and have a top-notch offense ... I expect a close shootout with SC surviving
again.
