I don't think those numbers show a "trend" at all.
Rather, that looks like a flat line at a bit above 30ppg, followed by a
one-year outlier at 15. It was a hell of a good outlier (man, was it
really 10 years ago???), but not a trend by any strict definition--at
least not mine.
How about filling out that chart with the 96, 97, and 98 results? I
know this takes Vanderlinden out of the mix, but if the real question
is head coaching, it's valid. I'll bet adding in those numbers in makes
1995 look even more like an outlier.
