Not exactly on the DC Comparison;
GC has been DC 2002 through 2005
2002 record 3-9 2002 points against 493 per game 41.1
2003 record 6-7 2003 points against 326 per game 25.1
2004 record 6-6 2004 points against 342 per game 28.5
2005 record 7-4 2005 points against 357 per game 32.5
overall record 22-26 total points against 1518 per game 31.6
RV was DC 1992 through 1996. Using the 'to this point' (i.e. 4-year comparison):
1992 record 3-8 1992 points against 373 per game 33.9
1993 record 2-9 1993 points against 335 per game 30.5
1994 record 3-7-1 1994 points against 351 per game 31.9
1995 record 10-2 1995 points against 181 per game 15.1
overall record 18-26-1 total points against 1240 per game 27.6
And remembering that GB/RV inherited the program from the Francis Peay shipwreck
The RW/GC duo inherited RW's own program.
GB/RV were 10-2 after year 4, 15.1 points per game against, and points per game definitely trending downward.
RW/GC are 7-4 after year 4, 32.5 points per game against, and points per game against trending UP for the third straight season.
Additionally, every school is at least potentially at risk of going into the toilet after a bad president change. The Weber and Bienen choices have been very solid, I'll trust our trustees to make an equally good choice the next time around.

Something I'm always asked by "outsiders" from other schools is why NU's guys
don't follow their own shots.
I always have to claim ignorance.
On NU Football Defense:
RW is a true upper manager. Those who have watched him at work know that he
turns a lot of the operation of the team over to his assistants and lets them
run.
Terry Hoeppner was an outstanding defensive coach who knew who to hire to give
him a better offense.
IMHO had Hoeppner come over with RW, we would have had a somewhat better D
because he would have built one prior to leaving for where ever he would have
gone next.
At the same time, we have an outstanding assistant head coach in Jerry Brown.
Everyone has to take note of the improvements to the d-backs during the season,
especially when you consider that we had to change 2 of the 4 after the Spring,
when a lot of the true coach takes place.
As for the present defensive staff, they are exactly where GB and his staff were
in 1994 in terms of tenure, but the Cats are 7-4 instead of 3-7-1.
The Barnett era raised the bar at NU, and we all expect more now, but remember
too that we're one college president change away from being back in the toilet.
