[NU Sports] NU Basketball

Something I'm always asked by "outsiders" from other schools is why NU's guys
don't follow their own shots.

I always have to claim ignorance.

On NU Football Defense:

RW is a true upper manager. Those who have watched him at work know that he
turns a lot of the operation of the team over to his assistants and lets them
run. 

Terry Hoeppner was an outstanding defensive coach who knew who to hire to give
him a better offense.

IMHO had Hoeppner come over with RW, we would have had a somewhat better D
because he would have built one prior to leaving for where ever he would have
gone next. 

At the same time, we have an outstanding assistant head coach in Jerry Brown.
Everyone has to take note of the improvements to the d-backs during the season,
especially when you consider that we had to change 2 of the 4 after the Spring,
when a lot of the true coach takes place.

As for the present defensive staff, they are exactly where GB and his staff were
in 1994 in terms of tenure, but the Cats are 7-4 instead of 3-7-1.

The Barnett era raised the bar at NU, and we all expect more now, but remember
too that we're one college president change away from being back in the toilet.
