This uniform discussion has brought 'em out of the woodwork...what if we
had
players where sandwich boards with Gothic-style numbers on the front, and
UCLA new-fangled danglin' 2 numbers on the back? Just a thought...
On to business. Coming out of Spring Ball, I felt that our overall depth
was turning the corner. It seemed to me that depth was better in all areas,
even the defensive line. Little did I (or anyone else) know that, what, were
down 5-6 2 deep players; out for the season due to a variety of reasons.
How this won't impact our record, only the most purple-induced zealot
would say that it wouldn't. I had us pegged for 7-4 or 6-5; I see 4-7 or 5-6.
This may not seem like a successful year, but let's put things in
perspective. I'm saying that not much has gone right, and we'll still flirt with
.500. If some of these young, new players mature, we may do better.
This year has me talking out of both sides of my mouth. However, I see
some sort of 2001 re-incarnation where we pile up gaudy offensive numbers, but
can't stop anyone. And what genius agreed to Michigan, Iowa and Ohio St. 3
consecutive weeks? Why don't we just add the Philadelphia Eagles after plaing
M.I, and O?
I see a 3-2 start (a split vs. PSU/Wisky), then we start getting worn down.
We'll spring a surprise vs. Iowa or Mich. St. (not both) and we'll be 4-6
heading into the finale.
I hope I'm wrong. How I could be...BB may throw for 300 yards a game, run
for 50 more, and who really thinks someone WON'T gain 1,000 yards, and we WON"T
develop good offensive linemen?
Our FG kicking, non-existant the last 2 seasons, is looking up. Howells
looked good in his, what, 3 game audition last season, so that will be a "pick
me up." (see 2004 TCU game for furter details...blah) What lost a game for us
last year may win a game this season.
Roach, Ngene, Coles and Kadela. Who are these people? At times, they've
showed glimpses of greatness. Audition time is over. What if they excell like
McGarigle and Cofield? Maybe this defense won't be "Son of 2001."
Anyway, I'm stoked as I'm filling in for Trey in Section 130; 1st home
game I've been to since the last second win vs. Sparty in 2001. I try to make it
a point to meet atleast a few list members; hopefully I can meet someone next
weekend.

               GO CATS!!!! Eric
