[NU Sports] Qualified Pessimism

The general mood of pessimism perhaps needs to be qualified.  Yes, the  
losses over the summer are devastating, but this is a team filled with question  
marks and inexperienced players.  We just do not know if replacements are  ready 
to step up and do the job. We do not know if Baz is ready to take charge  and 
lead the team to the top level as Kustok did in the Rose Bowl year.  We  do 
not know how good are these untested running backs.  We just don't  know.
 
Having watched NU football for 40+ years, I have an  understandable 
inclination to skepticism, but before writing off  the season, I really want to see 
what goes on the field next  month. Maybe Ohio and NIU are not defining 
challenges (although any  loss there might signal a return to the Dark Ages), but ASU 
and PSU (with a  tough, experienced defense) will tell us a lot about this 
Wildcat  team.  Let's wait and see.
