[NU Sports] I'm beginning to think ...

...that Bob's right: what the hell is going on
Kenosha? Is the idea to get the entire team hurt
before Big Ten play starts?
I am by nature extremely optimistic about NU football
at all times, but this has to be the most depressing
August since Rashidi died.
I am glad that Colby is so optimistic about the
offense, because it looks like we're going to need to
score 50 points a game, given what's happening to the
defense. Yes, the linebackers should be terrific -- I
loved Kadela before he got hurt last year -- but
Walker's reference to these LBs being like 2001
chilled me: remember, that defense, after Penn State,
couldn't stop anybody, anywhere, at anything.
Last year, WITH all the people we have lost, the Cats'
defense couldn't stop the pass. Now, we have to stop
QBs such as Keller, Kirsch, Robinson, Stanton, Tate,
and Henne with a completely inexperienced secondary
and what I suspect will be an iffy pass rush unless we
blitz, which, of course, carries its own risks with
it.
I don't worry about offense -- Walker has shown he can
pile up yards (if not always points). I do worry about
defense. And special teams, too -- any word on the
kicking and punting, which MUST be better than last
year? Jonathan's comments on the return teams make it
sound like it's likely another year with opponents
starting on their 40 each possession -- just what a
shaky defense needs.
I continue to be optimistic, but I am weakening.
Anybody got good news?
