[NU Sports] RW leaving?

I suspect that should Randy remain at NU, Pat's role will continue to increase.

However, I don't see Greg Colby leaving any time soon - which puts Fitz in a
glass ceiling situation.

Sorry to say, but Fitz will eventually have to go elsewhere, probably as a DC,
to realize his future potential, and then be able to return to NU down the road.

The best scenario is Walker getting an extension, maybe 4 or 5 years. Sometime
in that period, Greg Colby gets an offer he can't refuse to go to some other
program, and Fitz becomes the DC. Then Walker retires and Fitz is elevated to
the top slot.

Here's the problem - Randy Walker is what, 50?

OK, I'm a little older than RW and most of the assistants, and I think about the
same age as Mike Dunbar. If I had to predict, Mike Dunbar is probably the first
to retire [altho Coach Dunbar, like me thrives on the fun of coaching.] That
doesn't help Fitz at NU.

DC Greg Colby is younger, and [IMHO] has shown that he's a lot better DC than
most thought when he arrived. Amazing what recruiting talent will do. While Fitz
would probably do an outstanding job as an OC, that's not his primary interest.

Fitz could become a long time, NU Head Coach some day. He is an outstanding
recruiter, knows how to break down a ball game, build parts of the defense, and
has the sideline fire to be one of the greats at NU.

My big question is when does some other program grab him, and make him their
own?
