[NU Sports] RW leaving? (fwd)

I know some are drooling at the idea RW leaving for "greener" pastures. I wonder
what he'd do with a wide open recruiting field [no academic restrictions],
but...
All of the "top targets" are used to getting almost anyone they want into their
school. Like it or not, our talent pool is about 25% of the rest of the world
with the exception of Stanford, Rice, Duke, Vandy etc.
Many coaches would only take on NU as a stepping stone [like Gary B probably
did] and would be gone with the first offer at a "normal" school. The resultant
churn would put the Cats back in the dumper for several years while the new guy
recruited, then left after one good year. RW, for all his imagined faults, seems
to like coaching at NU.
He's comfortable with the recruiting limits and can also apply his restrictions
with the kids he recruits because the football team are HIS kids. We don't get
the mass numbers of gangstas and trouble makers that other programs with a
winning record seem to attract. Randy will pass on a kid who may have talent and
grades, but is rude to his parents, or otherwise seems to be a potential
problem.
It does restrict the number of 5 star athletes, but we certainly have fewer
police blotter reports. [Yes, we do have our share of problems but not the
blatant theft and assult charges that continually swirl around the other big
programs].
But I think the entire thing is moot.
RW appears to like working with Mark Murphy and Murphy seems to like the way RW
runs the program.
The biggest issue at Northwestern Athletics is how to get attendance up, and a
stable atmosphere, and continued close, exciting games will eventually attract
the curious. Now if we could just get the 5,000 screaming students at every
game...
