Worth noting: If Northwestern goes to the Music City Bowl and Minnesota goes to the Motor City Bowl, the Cats will be going ahead of a Gopher team that they lost to (in a blowout) earlier this year.
 
But NU's Big Ten record (5-3) compared to Minnesota's (3-5) would seem to justify taking the Cats over the Gophers.
 
Just shows that nothing's absolute...
