Check out some of these teams who played in past Rose Bowls:

1916 Brown (okay, they played Washington State)
1917 Penn (okay, they played Oregon)
1920 Harvard (okay, they also played Oregon)
1925 Stanford vs. Notre Dame
1929 Cal vs. Georgia Tech

There were also Michigan vs. Stanford matchups in both 1902 and 1972.
But, if I had to think very, very hard about my all-time academic
matchup in the Rose Bowl, I'll have to take 1949 Northwestern vs. Cal.
 Anyone surprised?

And, Paul Levinson has it right -- forget all this academic
self-righteousness coming out of $C. I wouldn't be surprised if those
so-called brain surgeons are paying off U.S. News & World Report and the
Princeton Review to get those ratings, just as they probably bought off
officials during the John McKay years.
