[NU Sports] The B(C)S takes a hit ...

Don't jump to too many conclusions about the imminent collapse of the BCS.
After all, they are signed contracts through I believe 2009 or 2010. There
is however increased talk of a BCS selection committee being formed, similar
to the basketball tournament selection committee, that would replace all of
the polls and would be used to determine at least who would play in the BCS
championship game. Conference bowl affiliations would probably be
maintained to help determine the balance of the BCS games. I think we are
likely to see that in place by the end of the upcoming football season and
that will probably be sufficient to convince the Big 10 and Pac 10 to hang
around.

Apparently the AP has asked that their poll no longer be used in the BCS
rankings starting in 2005!

That means that the computers (no comment) and these anonymous coaches
(i.e. SID junior intern assistants) who put Cal sixth or so will now
determine our B(C)S "title" games.

Another step toward dismantling this system - woohoo!:) The Rose Bowl is
talking half a step outside of the ring by dealing with ABC while the rest
go to Fox ... now we need the Big Ten or Pac 10 (or both) to withdraw and
the house of cards will collapse for sure.

As for that ASU hoops game last night -- ouch! The score does look a lot
uglier than most of the game was, but ASU is a pretty darn good team. And
they looked a lot like a Big Ten team in size and play, so that was
probably good to show us what we need to do before January.

GO CATS!!!
