It is certainly possible that the newspapers are picking this up from
the Internet.
OR
It is possible that the newspapers have sources that go beyond
speculation on the Internet.
In any case, the only thing that gives this story any legs at all is
that RW hasn't come out publically and said he wasn't interested. In
fact, he is one of the FEW mentioned on ND lists over the past couple of
weeks that hasn't come out and said something publically.
So I ask a couple of questions.
What is different about his circumstances that would justify his silence
(if he weren't interested) compared with all those others who have
publically said they weren't interested?
We of all institutions should be demanding quick rebuttal of these sorts
of things given what went on with GB's job hunting. Yet, it we haven't
heard it yet. Why not?
A lot of people in the past used exactly these circumstances to build
the case that RW is committed to building the program here rather than
just building his resume. But when those circumstances actually present
themselves, he hasn't denied his interest. What's going on?
In comparison, there were a lot of rumors circulating last week
regarding Carr's retirement at Michigan. He not only came out and
flatly denied them, but publically accussed other coaches of
deliberately spreading those rumors to gain a recruiting advantage. He
said that he specifically knows who some of the offending institutions
are and planned to take action both on and off the field to bring an end
to it.
That strikes me as the sort of statement you would expect from someone
who is not interested in any offers.
There have been some posts lately suggesting that stuff posted on this
board may be adversely affecting recruiting. Job rumors that aren't
quickly quashed by head coaches are going to affect recruiting much more
than anything posted here.
We are in the middle of recruiting season. Why aren't we hearing a
denial from RW?
