[NU Sports] John Pickens

Jewell Pickens, the mother of John Pickens, told me this afternoon that  John 
has been selected to go to the Hula Bowl.  Luis Castillo was also  named, but 
can't go because of medical reasons.  She also said she thinks  that Noah 
Herron is going to the Las Vegas Bowl.  With the Blue-Grey  Classic cancelled, 
that cuts down on the number of all-star slots that are  available.
 
Believe it or not, Mrs. Pickens works in the same building as I  do in 
Manhattan, 16 floors below me.  We met at the Mark Murphy Event held  around the 
corner in NYC several months ago by the NU CLUB OF NY and have stayed  in touch, 
on and off, since that time, commiserating about our building  owners.  She is 
a truly lovely human being, and her husband also seemed  like a super guy.  I 
have no doubt that John will be successful, whether he  can pursue his dream 
to play in the NFL, or using his degree from the School of  Communications.  
Just another reason why rooting for the Wildcats is so  rewarding, albeit 
sometimes frustrating.
