"They also shut out Texas, the first time the Horns been shut out since, what, the Truman administration? (On that basis alone I think Cal got shafted Royally.)"
Would that be Darrell Royally ?
Since the Truman Administration (April 12, 1945), Texas has been shut out a surprising 12 times:
1946 @TCU 0-14 Dana X Bible
1954 @ND 0-21 Ed Price
1955 vOK 0-20
1956 vOK 0-45
@TCU 0-46
1960 @Rice 0-7 Darrell Royal
1961 TCU 0-6
1963 vLSU 0-13 (Cotton Bowl)
1972 vOK 0-27
1976 Hous 0-30
1980 @Bayl 0-16 Fred Akers
2004 vOK 0-12 Mack Brown
So it was 24 years between shutouts, which is an interval I would not mind seeing in Evanston.
No shutouts were suffered by John Mackovic or Texas' forgotten coach, David McWilliams.
Dana Bible suffered all sorts of shutouts, including 8 in his first three seasons (1937-39). The best of Bible's shutouts was on October 3 1942, when he ventured to Evanston and was shut out by Northwestern 3-0. That Texas team went on to be Southwest Conference and Cotton Bowl Champions (9-2).
