[NU Sports] MSU can share our misery ...

Didn't stay up for the whole game like last week, but that MSU-Hawaii game
last night -- minus the whipping winds -- looked a lot like the Cats' loss
two weeks ago:

- MSU jumps out to a 21-0 lead
- MSU kills itself with an unusually high amount of penalties
(two long TDs called back - ugh!)
- Chad Owens has a record-setting day
- MSU piles up more yards passing than running despite the perception that
they should be able to run through this Hawaii defense ... and despite
breaking some big runs up the gut

So Hawaii becomes the seventh team on NU's 2004 schedule to head to a bowl
game -- and TCU just missed by a game. It didn't hurt MSU as much as it
hurt us, but that trip to Hawaii was a big downer for two Big Ten teams to
end their surprisingly strong seasons on in 2004. Stupid scheduling!:)

PS - This BCS mess could get really ugly later today -- not only will you
almost certainly have an unbeaten SEC team who defeated three top 10 foes
left OUT of the title game ... you could have a Cal team whose only loss
was by a last-second deflection to #1 USC left out of the Rose Bowl because
they didn't run up the score at the end while an equally qualified Texas
team lobbied for votes. To top it all off ... these bowls don't even appear
to WANT to match up the "other" two BCS unbeatens, Auburn and Utah.

It's not looking to be a banner year for the B(C)S bowls in terms of
excitement or attendance. After the "title" game, the most promising
matchup could be the Liberty Bowl with Louisville and Boise State. (The
Peach Bowl with Miami vs. Florida could be good, too).
