[NU Sports] ND action

I have several partners who are ND alums who provided me with what I thought
were the views of many of the alums. They were shocked at the actions of
the university but not in the way you might expect. They never believed that
ND would have the guts to do something which to their minds so obviously
needed to be done. After all, ND had never fired a coach before the end of
a contract term (with the exception of the O'Leary mess). In their minds,
this was not a racial matter at all. There was simply no progress being
made.

Losing to SC by 31 points three years in a row is sufficient reason to be
fired according to these alums. It is now clear to me, that ND has
sacrificed whatever pretense to a higher calling it ever claimed. It is
just another football factory, albeit one with their own tv network. Does
this make the firing right? Who's to say? There are stories out of South
Bend that the Univ. of Wash. asked for permission to talk to Ty that other
inquiries were being made. So, maybe this wasn't entirely out of the blue
and maybe Kevin White knows exactly what Urban Meyer wants to do next year
and knew he had to act know. Those are all things we may never know. To
me, the interesting point is that the alumni had been screaming for his head
for going on two years and the euphoria over the firing crashed the servers
on their rivals site twice today.
