I think Skylar pointed out, pretty well, that 5* rankings certainly do not
guarantee success, it helps. 4&5* players wash out and walkons make All
Americans. However if you look at the All American teams, there are
typically mostly 4&5* HS athletes, with some 3 star and even walkons.

I'm not sure I buy the underlying premise that recruiting numbers translate
into on-the-field performance.
How does Notre Dame do over the past decade? They nearly always have a Top
10 recruiting class, but until this season they were pretty dismal on the
field.
