So he is guilty of assault and resisting arrest, but innocent of 
assaulting the guy the officers went after him for in the first place; 
makes perfect sense to me.

Dennard found guilty of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest; not 
guilty for assaulting another man that predicated the arrest.

The assaulting an officer charge was a felony, I believe.
