I have read most of the posts and many great points were made.  I have learned a long time ago when ANY decision is made in big time college athletics follow the money trail.  They can tell us how much they care about the so called student/athlete but it really is all about the money.  I am not saying I have it all figured out but the Big 10 wouldn't be calling for more conference games if they haven't figured out a way to make the conference, and likely individual schools  more money.  If it wasn't for that I doubt they would be talking about it much less proposing it.
It is the same reason we don't have a playoff system in the top division in college football.  No one has yet convinced the College Presidents they would make more money with a playoff system than the way it is now with the Bowl Games.  Typically one can find the answer looking for the money.
