Every story I've heard/read about Pelini indicates that players love and respect him. It's kind of funny that one of the complaints about Pelini in this whole thread was how he treated a member of the local media after an article where he took a bunch of shots at one of his players. Pelini stood up for his player and defended him.
Days later, that media member walked back some (not all) of his criticism, saying that he got too personal with his some of his comments about the player.

I also agree with most of what Dave wrote. I think Pelini may turn out to
be a good head coach, time will tell. My problem with him is he reminds me
of a HS coach we had at Wauneta in the early '60's. He behaved liked Pelini
and I hated his guts. He made up names for those of us he didn't like. One
freshman with big ears he called "Ears". One day he said "What's up Ears?"
Ears said "Not much Mouth". It was funny as hell. Well Mouth hauled him
down to the Sup's. office and Ears was sent home. Being sick of his
bullying, I went to the Sup's. office and blew the whistle on him. The
result was Mouth gave me a "D" ilo an "A" in Geography. He called me
"Roach, you f_cking p_ssy". So I quit sports and went home and pitched
ensilage after school, much to my dad's pleasure... In 1969, now grown up
to 6'5", weighing in at 235# with muscle gained from pitching ensilage out
of that upright silo for 15 years, and with skills learned from being a
bartender and part time bouncer at Der Loaf Und Stein in Lincoln, I was home
for Christmas and guess who showed up at my folks house to sell them
insurance? You guessed it; "Mouth". When I met him at the door I said
"What's up Mouth?" He grinned sheepishly. I told him "Beat it before I
kicked your ass up between your shoulder blades".
Why did I write this story? Beats the heck out of me. I thought some of you
may have experienced similar jerk coaches in your past and would enjoy a
story where the wimp gets the last revenge. I can tell you that when you
are young and bullied you never forget it. Do I think Pelini is a bully?
Yup, I do. Sorry, it's only my opinion from watching his actions. I may be
totally wrong in that he treats his players right and they love the snot out
of him.
My opinion and $5 will get you a jumbo cup of joe at Starbucks.

I totally agree Dave.
"Not the victory but the action.
Not the goal but the game.
In the deed the glory."
