[Husker] Tattered Husker fly over hopes

I think the Rolling stones sum up a lot of Husker fans right now

"And look at me, I'm in tatters, yeah
I've been battered, what does it matter"

Around '93 we started learning not to hold our breath when playing a top 25
team, in fact within a couple years we learned to debate the margin of
victory more than the probable outcome. Honestly we got a little full of
ourselves, but in the limelight of unprecedented success I think that's
forgivable.

Empires, great parties and the warmth of a good cocktail all fade. They
can't last. They probably shouldn't.

Maybe it's worth pondering why this matters so much. Maybe when you live in
a "fly over" state the limelight is akin to tanking an 8 year old up with
Mountain Dew and letting them tell jokes at the party. Maybe it's a way of
showing the left and right coasts that we matter. That Midwestern values
and ethic can reach out and touch you; sometimes by ringing your bell.
Other times just by driving the speed limit in the left lane of the
freeway.

When the bottom began falling out we thought it had to be an anomaly; man,
woman and child we need a new coach. A couple years of PediShine &
corresponding eye irritation made us yearn for a less refined, meaty main
course. Enter the BoRito! Slightly gassy on occasion but appetizing.

On the cusp of 5 seasons I'm not sure if Bo Pellini will bring Nebraska
anywhere close to 1995 levels. Is he the lone ranger who can restore the
order? The guy with the best seat in the house to make this call is still
there in Lincoln making sure Bo is the right option. For now, barring Bo
crashing a Harley with a secret girl friend on University payroll as
passenger, I'd rather alternately enjoy, fume and watch as the 2012 season
unfolds.

The question isn't whether we trust Bo so much as trusting Dr. Tom. Don't
expect him to show his hand, his poker face is the stuff of legends :)
