The average number of pointgs scored in 1A/FBS games has been creeping
up over the years, rules changes and changes in offensive strategies are
the major causes.
Some of the greatest games of the Osborne era had final scores like
17-14. These days only scoring 17 points is often considered
an offensive meltdown, even if you win.
The institutional damage wreaked by Steve Pederson on the Huskers
is still not fully repaired.
