[Husker] UCLA prediction

Lou Holtz is cutting back his on-air appearances for ESPN; he's no longer on Thursday nights, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's not on tonight.  Corso has also reduced his workload on Saturdays.

I'm always reminded of a discussion a Lincoln sportswriter had with Mike Tirico nearly 20 years ago about ESPN's college football shows.  Tirico was asked about some of the outlandish things that ESPN commentators said.  Tirico said that GameDay and the halftime/postgame shows were intended to be entertainment and were designed to spark conversation and interest.  Essentially talk radio on television; it should be viewed completely separate from play-by-play game coverage.

One can argue that this mindset has since infiltrated the game broadcasts (see Cunningham, Ed), but the point is still the same... ESPN's on-air personalities are supposed to take strong positions when the microphone is on...even stronger than they may personally believe.

Mark May really appears to dislike Nebraska.  I was just leaving the house yesterday when ESPN said Mark May was coming on next with his upset alert.  Did not have to stay to listen.  I knew it would be Nebr. that he thought would be upset.
Think ESPN needs some new blood.  Time for Corso and Holtz to go.  They're both acting senile.

Yeah, its pretty sorry.  Corso was a decent coach, and the early Game Day
stuff was fun and informative.  Seems like he's lost a couple of steps,
slow on the uptake, his stuff heavily scripted.  Its almost painful to
watch.

With that said, May's prediction was basically, UCLA now has a running
back, now has a QB, forget Martinez's improved throwing, Nebraska's run
offense, UCLA's gonna win.  It was a prediction backed up by ......  I'm
going to scan other sportswriters today to get a feel of where they think
this game is going.  But the B1G preview show earlier this week on BTN said
that if Nebraska can avoid those large holes between the tackles, they
should win.

Maybe this is a year we can outscore our opponents and the defense can take
some time to get their feet steady.

I'm saying Nebraska 31 UCLA 21.

Not much more behind that than May's, but I'm stickin' to it.
