[Husker] It went about how I expected

I agree that the receivers were great today. I think Osborne (sp) is going
to be great. Enunwa is tough as nails. I think the receivers look better
because the passes were on target making the balls easier to catch. Good
thing I'm not the coach because after last year I would have assigned our QB
a good comfortable spot on the end of the bench and played "anyone else".
He has made tremendous progress in my opinion. I hope he can play that way
against better pressure; he is going to see that in future games.
The defense is another story. They really miss Lavonte David. I think the
D is a step back from last year. They don't have the speed of last year's D
, the tackling is not good, the pass rush is not good, and the D line is
average at best. I just don't see any special athletes on the D. I hope
there are some young players that will become starters this year. The state
of the D is a real disappointment to me given we have a defensive minded
coach in his 5th(?) year on the job. I'm particularly disappointed in the
poor fundamentals some of the players have. Teaching the basics should be
the first and most important job of the coaches. You can't teach speed so
if you have average players they need to have great fundamentals.
My opinions and $5 will get you a jumbo cup of joe at Starbucks.

No question the receivers caught everything nearby. Nice to see. What I am
really shocked at was how open they were. I would love to hear how many
times TM had to check to the 2nd or 3rd opinion but I think not many.
I am curious if the coaches planned all along to pass as much as they did or
if that was how the game evolved.
I thought the commentators were great. They offered excellent points and
critiques. The shot on how the first FG was missed was well done.

than I thought. Had Rex Burkhead not gotten hurt, this may have really
gotten ugly early. It was good to see Ameer Abdullah step up. It was
surprising to see Brett Maher miss a couple of field goals. It was also nice
to see the receivers catch and hold onto the ball. Hopefully, the injuries
aren't too bad. And I hope that these injuries are not a preview of the
upcoming season.

little troubling to see Southern Miss run it up the middle. With a new
defensive coordinator, this is not surprising. I do believe that the coaches
will get things worked out over the next three games.
