The game went about how I expected. Nebraska did get out to a faster start than I thought. Had Rex Burkhead not gotten hurt, this may have really gotten ugly early. It was good to see Ameer Abdullah step up. It was surprising to see Brett Maher miss a couple of field goals. It was also nice to see the receivers catch and hold onto the ball. Hopefully, the injuries aren't too bad. And I hope that these injuries are not a preview of the upcoming season.

The defense looked okay. Nebraska needs to shore up the middle. It was a little troubling to see Southern Miss run it up the middle. With a new defensive coordinator, this is not surprising. I do believe that the coaches will get things worked out over the next three games.

The UCLA game will be a good challenge for this team. All in all, this was a good season opener.
