In my opinion the game plan to beat Ohio State is basically the same thing that I said how Nebraska could beat UCLA, and essentially what they did in most of the second half against Wisconsin. Nebraska needs to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. And control the game by running the ball. A good ground game will open up play action at critical times. Even if they only get a yard or three, especially early in the game, Nebraska must stick with running the ball. It will pay dividends later in the game.
Defensively, Nebraska needs to make Ohio State one dimensional by stopping the running game. They need to pressure Braxton Miller to contain him. If the defensive line can get a push, then Braxton Miller won't have a time to get his wheels turning. The defense needs to play within themselves and stick to fundamentals. They cannot over pursue and not try to do too much. They need to stick to their assignments and hit hard.
Special teams will need to be nearly flawless. Make all the field goals and extra points and flip the field with big punts.
And of course, avoid dumb penalties and turn overs on offense.
I don't know how Tim Beck plans for a game. I do know that Tom Osborne would through several different looks at a defense to see how they reacted and then would make adjustments. It was not unusual for Nebraska to go 3 and out on their early offensive series under Coach Osborne. If Coach Beck does the same thing, then do not panic if Nebraska goes 3 and out early the game, they are just probing the defense. I used to see if Nebraska would get first downs or drive the field and score. If they got first downs, then you could tell that the offense was going to do well. If they scored, then you knew that the offense would have a big day. Again, I do not know how Coach Beck preps for a game, but I still use the early series to get a feel for the how the offense will do. Sometimes, it looks like Coach Beck does not have a lot of rhyme or reason to his game plan.
A prediction is hard because I do not know which Nebraska will show up. If there are a lot of mistakes, then this game can get away from them and it will be like the last years Michigan and Wisconsin games. If Nebraska and stay in control and not come out too tight, then they will have a good game and win.
I believe that win last week has given Nebraska confidence and experience to stay within themselves, so...
Nebraska 42
Ohio State 28
Go B1G Red!
