I got the impression that it was like buyer's remorse. According to the
account I read (one of the Wisconsin papers?) I thought the QB said that he
understood the play but that something happened and the play blew up.
Maybe he handed off to Ball in hopes that Ball had a better chance of
making a yard than he was going to have going around end. I'm going to
watch the replay and see exactly what happened. The one replay I have seen
seems to show Whaley (I think) blowing up Ball before he took a single
step. I want to see if the QB could have advanced the ball if he hadn't
"handed" it off.
