[Husker] For the taking

In some ways maybe this season represents what Husker fans had in mind when
the news broke that Dr. Tom was pulling the eject handle on the Big 12.

The landing however was rougher than expected and 2011 represented both
memories and regrets.

This year however, though there were set backs, two steps lay between
Nebraska and the goals that a collective state set when they saw the state
of Texas...er I mean the B12 in the rear view mirror. Respect and
relevance. Call it R&R for the Big Red.

Phase one of the beach landing starts Friday. Change the name from Iowa
City to Normandy.

Why? If the Big Red can outright claim "the B1G" as its own this year and
go on to a bowl victory over a name brand then 2013 will wake the echoes of
MNC's past. Yep, there will be talk both here and abroad (outside the
borders of the red state) about Nebraska and a national championship.

The pieces are in place; a tooth breaking running game, salty QB who can
break the big one through the air or on the ground and a coach widely
respected as a defensive mastermind (call me guilty of drinking koolaid or
what have you... )

There have been a lot of false starts declared over the past 8 years about
Nebraska "being back". We've all eaten the bitter fruit of false hope but
the 2013 schedule, the returning offensive talent and defensive mind set
point to a 2013 Husker football apocalypse.

It all starts Friday and hopefully the Hawkeyes will prove to be a human
sacrifice to the Husker football gawds.

Yes, I need a real life (in case you are asking or declaring)
