I'm not sure I'd agree with the implication that Snyder had something to do
with "blowing" a shot at the national title. I'd argue that they'd be
nowhere near even having that shot without him. There are probably lots of
reasons for the collapse at Baylor, including a great performance by
Baylor, but I also think the pressure of the chase likely got to a team
that wasn't prepared for it going into the season. I wouldn't suspect that
even Snyder expected a performance like this. When you're talking about a
bunch of college kids, emotions can easily get the best of them in a
hostile environment against an underachieving team who manages to put it
all together for one night. Even a guy like Collin Klein could get ahead of
himself picturing playing for the national title and winning a Heisman,
possibly resulting in an underwhelming game.
