I was at the game and this happened right in front of us in the
NE corner (where my seats are on about the 5 yd line). Stafford
was very upset and yelling at the bench before he came off the field.
When I was a junior-high school teacher, I realized that different
teachers were able to reach many students but in entirely different
ways. Different teachers have different styles and different students
responded better to one type of teaching than another. No one style
is best for everyone.
It is remarkable that it has been 13 years since NU's last conference
title in football. I think that winning or not winning the conference
title has some impact on recruiting. It is easier to say come to NU
and you'll play for a championship, if your team has actually won a
championship.
My take on this is that Bo reaches many of his players successfully,
as evidenced by their success this year, especially by their success
in winning when the game is in doubt. However, I'm sure that there
are some players who don't like Bo's style either some or all of the
time. However, some of those players may not have the desire it takes
to really try to be the best they could be.
As for those of you who use TO as the standard, how do you think
Devaney coached and what would have happened if Devaney were Devaney
today?
