[Husker] Player respect

Sean,
I must disagree. I played for a screamer like Bo and didn't like that style
at all. I also played for Dan Young (RIP) who ended up being a pretty decent
coach at NU. I don't recall Mr. Young ever blowing up like Bo does.
Also you talk about the players not showing Bo respect by yelling at him on
the field, isn't it also a case of Bo showing the player no respect by
virtue of his behavior. IMO there is way too much of this type of behavior
by coaches and players toward each other and especially toward game
officials.
Until there are sanctions for this kind of behavior I suspect we'll see even
more of it.
On an unrelated topic the Kansas City Star no longer has a beat reporter
covering the Huskers as they did when we were a member of the Big 8/12. They
now have a small article authored by the Associated Press. At the end of the
article in today's paper about the NU victory over Penn State it said "The
Huskers, 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten. Remain in control of the
league's Legend's Division."

I think you might be missing the larger issue here. The issue of Bo yelling
at players is to be expected. Its what happens with passionate coaches. I
like to see the fire.
What's not acceptable is when a player has such little respect for his coach
that he feels a sense of license to yell at him on the field. Stafford isn't
the first (see Bell) and probably won't be the last...this year.
Can you really see a Jason Peter yelling back at McBride? How about Carriker
yelling at Solich? Heck, how about Suh yelling at Cosgrove?! They all had
enough respect for their respective coach and wouldn't have ever thought of
yelling at their position coach, let alone the head coach.
I've played for some real difficult coaches. While I didn't like them all, I
at least respected them and would never dream of yelling at them in a place
outside of the coaches office- and after asking for permission. :-)
This is a problem. They say a team is a direct representation of their
coach. Countless turnovers, penalties, bone headed plays, etc., are not
taught. However, players sure as heck need to be coached up to have the
discipline to stop making stupid mistakes. I think it's clear Bo isn't the
coach to do that. There's no excuse for this to keep happening this far into
his coaching stint.
Why does a team that lost so many blue chip players, face an everything that
happened in the past year and roll into Lincoln and come thisclose to
knocking off the Huskers? Where does coaching come into play?
