[Husker] Martinez Co-Offensive Player of the Week, Time set for Minnesota

I agree with this post; however, earlier this year I referred to the
Huskers as a team that couldn't win because they were trying not to lose.

I think my opinion on that is changing.

I attended BYU when they won the MNC in 1984. During that streak, they did
not play consistent defense, they threw interceptions, and they committed a
lot of penalties. But they consistently won despite these flaws. I hated
it!!!!

But, if you have an explosive offense that can score quickly and taxes the
defense you can win. 1st and 20 was not a big deal for BYU, and it is
becoming less important to NU. If you can throw the ball effectively, down
and distance matter less. It really depends on your offensive philosophy.

I am not sure I like the direction we are going regarding control of the
game and discipline. I am not sure you can't have an explosive offense
without these mistakes...But an explosive multidimensional offense can
overcome these "flaws."

On the other hand, holding penalties and formation penalties are a part of
this scheme. BYU taught their players to hold; hopefully without being
caught. They also counted on not being caught with too many men in the
backfield (because the more you bend the offensive line they better pocket
you create). I can't explain being offsides or jumping the snap.

Defensively, Bo appears to be willing to give up some interference
penalties to have tight coverage. I also can't argue with that, because I
don't know better.

All I can say, is that we are winning. This team has gone from a team that
could not come from behind (for decades) to one that is dangerous
regardless the score. We have less control of the game, but with
explosiveness and confidence that is less important.

To be honest I gave up on NU this past week, and against MU, and against
Northwestern. That is because I viewed them through my antique "scarlet"
glasses. This is not your father's Huskers, but a different bird. (I hope).
