The part that was confusing me was the pro signing deal. So there could be
5 open spots plus over sign by three. So if a guy has a good shot at going
the too pro's you wouldn't want to sign him until the deal sealed, which
brings me to ask when is the cutoff date for LOI To be eligible for fall
enrollment ?

I believe the issue is that the formula looks like this:
# of spots open at the end of the season + departing seniors = number of
spots to fill
Then, on top of that, you're allowed to oversign by 3 (but there has to be a
documented reason, not just 'I felt like it', so in this case, Lemke's
injury).
Now with baseball, teams typically oversign by quite a bit because you do
lose a lot of people to either the draft or other things (at a much higher
rate than other sports). So, the SEC will typically sign 5-10 guys extra,
knowing a lot will be going in the draft.
The worst part about the B1G rules is that if you have an incoming player
drafted he still counts as a signee for that year (because he will have
signed his LOI), so you can't replace his spot until the following year (SO
HORRIBLE).
Bottom line, the B1G needs to drastically overhaul its baseball signing
rules. It's REALLY bad and part of what keeps the conference a 'mid-major'
in baseball.

Skylar, I'm not sure how the B1G rule of signing players work. If I
understand right if we lose a player that is say a junior the team cannot
sign a player to fill that spot until he was too graduate. So if this is the
case how can Erstad use Lemke's spot next year ?

There will be some turnover for sure. I have heard Lemke may be done
because of health issues.
It's the single biggest need and while we have an arm or two next year
coming in, the bigger class comes in 2013

With the season coming to a close, How does Erstad handle the pitching staff
for next year ? does he ask some pitchers not to come back, try and get
improvement from them ? The pitching staff is a bit like a box of
chocolate's.
