I have been involved in several organizations that run large public events, including
the US Chess Federation and the Cornhusker State Games.

There's a lot of behind the scenes security that, for obvious reasons, they
don't talk about.  For major sporting events, even more precautions are taken.

I would imagine the security in London for the next few weeks will be intense,
especially with it being the 40th anniversary of the Munich Games.
