[Husker] Penn State's Penalties

Now IIRC, the B1G has a rule that states a transfer within the B1G cannot be
put on scholarship.

Wonder if that is still in effect.

Penn State has agreed to these penalties and will not appeal.

Also, I was wrong on the scholarships. Scholarships are 15 per year, but
the total number of scholarship football players will be 65 by 2016 (not
45).

All current and incoming Penn State players are essentially free agents now.
And schools may be able to accept transfers from Penn State this fall and
not worry about the 85 scholarship limit for this fall only, since it's so
late in the season.

But this isn't the end of it...yet. The Big Ten is set to announce
sanctions later today as well.

But frankly, until Curley and Schultz are tried (and Spanier is charged and
tried), it's not over.

Ouch.

I wonder if PSU has agreed to not appeal/sue over these charges. I certainly
think the NCAA is overreaching. Now I also think it would be worse for PSU's
image if they did take this to court.

I will be surprised if this is the end of it.

You decide if this is worse than the death penalty. It's a tough call.

* Football scholarships cut from 25 per year to 15. Penn State will only
have 45 scholarship football players in the 2016 season.
* 4 year bowl ban.
* All current and incoming football players can transfer immediately without
having to sit out a year.
* All victories from 1998 vacated.
* $60 million fine - to be used to fund child abuse protection programs.

>From a Husker perspective, this is preferable to the death penalty or a TV
ban because it keeps the schedule intact and keeps the Nebraska/Penn State
game on TV.

>From a Penn State perspective, you might prefer a shorter death penalty and
start over sooner. If you were being recruited by Penn State, you are
rethinking your commitment this morning because you (a) will not be going to
a bowl game ever (unless you redshirt a year) and (b) a scholarship may not
be available anyway. Penn State will be a glorified 1-AA team by the time
2016 rolls around.
