[Husker] Joe Paterno, 1926-2012

When it was announced that Nebraska was joining the Big Ten, my hope was
that Joe Paterno would have at least one more appearance on the sidelines
of Memorial Stadium.

That was not to be, for reasons that went beyond football.

And now Joe Paterno has died, just twelve weeks after much of his life's 
work was tarnished.  

Much will be written about Joe Paterno in the coming days, weeks,
months and years, quite a lot of it unflattering.  He defined, in ways
both good and bad, an era (or several eras) of college football.

T.S. Eliot wrote:  This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but 
a whimper.
